What is Teton Valley Composite?  

 

Teton Valley Composite (TVC) is a mountain biking team for students in grades 6-12 in Teton Valley, Idaho and Alta, WY enrolled in private, public, and homeschool programs. TVC student-athletes compete in the Idaho Interscholastic Cycling League, a program of the National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA). The team is led by Head Coach & Team Directors Jeff Loban and John Kromis and is supported by 12+ other dedicated volunteer coaches. This year we expect 60-75 riders to participate in the program.

Teton Valley Composite’s program goals are always the same: have fun, ride and race safely, show respect for others, include and value every rider. Our team welcomes riders of any ability. This is a unique high school and middle school team environment where there are no cuts; everyone rides and contributes to the team no matter his or her ability level. There are optional cross-county style races across the state of Idaho. Riders are encouraged to race, but racing is not required to join the team. TVC stresses teamwork and creating stronger and more confident student-athletes both on and off the bike. TVC also helps with trail maintenance on local Teton Valley trails as a team.

As a 501c3 non-profit we rely on donations to keep team fees affordable for Teton Valley families. This also means that your donations may be tax deductible.

TVC sponsorship dollars support coach training, travel expenses and purchasing team equipment for racing and practices. Funding supports our ability to purchase team-branded tents, bike racks, tables and chairs, two-way radios, banners, water coolers, race-day food and nutrition, team jerseys, critical spare parts and tools (tires, tubes, pumps, etc.), and first aid supplies.

Well-trained coaches ensure TVC is providing positive and safe experiences for the student-athletes we coach. Most importantly, good training allows coaches to provide an environment that is fun, appropriate to, and supportive of the adolescents we coach. TVC coaches are not paid- they are all volunteers! However, the team covers all the costs associated with fulfilling all requirements to be a licensed NICA coach. This required training and insurance includes an annual background check, a 16-hour Wilderness First Aid and CPR course, On-the-Bike Skills training, concussion awareness, NICA Leaders’ Summit attendance and a NICA Coach License. It costs TVC approximately $425 to train and license a team coach.

Mountain biking is an expensive sport. Combined league, team, and racing fees total upwards of $400 PLUS each student-athlete has to have their own bike. To overcome this barrier to entry, TVC provides need-based scholarships and loaner bikes to help get #morekidsonbikes. We realize the importance and benefits of mountain biking for all youth in Teton Valley and are working towards inclusivity for all residents.
